As learned while preparing for the PMP and CAPM Certification- let's take a look at how corporations could evolve over the next five years.
Change's Nature – The variables influencing business today include communication, collaboration, social technology, the cloud, and mobility. Add to it certain organizations' ability to use crowds for microtasks and other new technologies, not just for enhanced productivity and cooperation, but also for changing the physical aspect of the workplace. When the influences of Gen Y and Millennials are factored in, we have not just different corporations, but also a new workforce.
Collaboration - Given the quick speed of technological innovation and the use of crowds as a business tool, it's easy to see how the collaborative workplace of the future may look very different from what we see now. Any future workplace will require collaboration. In fact, "better teamwork" has consistently ranked among the top five priorities on CEO surveys for the previous five years.
Outsourcing - Sales, IT, HR, and a variety of other tasks will be outsourced in the future. This type of company has reduced overhead, is more adaptable, and is more competitive.
As learned while preparing for the PMP and CAPM Certification- a "lean" organization, which focuses on the efficiency of a certain function, would be the "next" organization. As a result, there would be no new resources to force other resources to become more efficient. There would be effective processes in place to track efficiency.
To define some of the qualities of future firms, consider the following list:
Managers serve as mentors to project teams rather than functional domains.
Employees and project managers negotiate job obligations.
Project managers are in charge of defining responsibilities and resources, as well as recruiting and managing the team.
Executive positions are awarded depending on the magnitude and quantity of completed projects.
Initiatives with larger budgets but the lower risk might be chosen; all projects are reviewed through a procedure.
Customers are involved in initiatives with less budget but more imaginative ideas.
The C-suite will continue to exist since it is required for general direction, initiating projects, and resolving conflicts amongst teams.
As a result, the Future Project Manager will be the sole "Owner" of the Project. He'll be in charge of overseeing the project and ensuring that the deliverables are completed within the project's parameters. In comparison to a lame duck, the Project Manager will have greater authority and assertiveness in the company and will be the "Owner" of the project.
"Project Management" would be seen as a distinct discipline and a required role in the company. Because the other responsibilities will be outsourced, the Project Manager will play a critical role in managing "Risks" or external partners/vendors.
The Future Project Manager will have greater power and authority in the new company, and will undoubtedly be in charge.
